CREATE YOUR OWN CONFORT ZONE EVERYWHERE YOU WANT TO BE: REKA JAKABFFY
Réka Jakabffy she has learned through her various journeys to create a safe place.
My name is Réka, I was born and raised in Italy, started my career as a horse rider until I moved to the Netherlands from 2015 to 2017. There I begun working as a professional photographer, after experimenting with friends, my dog Leo and travelling around the world. Animals, humans and landscapes. These were my first subjects and I must say, portraiture still is my favorite kind of photography. Lately I have tried to put it all together, always trying to remain as true-to-life as possible. Hence my passion for analog photography. Differently from digital, it forces you to pay more attention to details as there is no real post production involved. You can work with contrast and color to a certain degree, but it is impossible to change things like we are used to with photoshop nowadays.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.
DESCRIBE YOUR PASSION IN 3 WORDS.
EVOCATIVE, GRACEFUL AND DARING.
YOUR APARTMENT REFLECT YOU?
Definitely! Each peace tells a story. Being someone who had to change and move many times since my childhood, one lesson I learned is to create your own confort zone for “survival”. It doesn’t really matter whether you’re renting, like I do, or if you own. To me this place has become some sort of safe den from the outside world, a place I truly enjoy! I love baking and decorating to make it even more cozy and as a result I believe staying in, cooking for my friends or watching a good film with popcorn, is almost always the best plan. This apartment has also become my working space. I dedicated a whole wall for my photoshoot backdrops, transforming it into a studio, which makes it even more important to create a warm environment for everyone to feel comfortable. I find having a cup of tea or coffee, getting to no one another a bit more, really helps generating the best pictures.
YOUR FAVORITE OBJECT?
I own a beautiful old analog camera from the 70s! It’s a Hasselblad and if was given to me as a birthday gift from my better half, Andrea. The shape, even the heavy weight, makes it so unique. I bring it along for every special occasion. She is built in such a clever way that, in spite of her 50 years of age, she still delivers stunning images, with little to no differences from the past.
WHAT INSPIRE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU THINK WHEN YOU CREATE?
The best Directors Of Photography and filmmakers like Hayao Miyazaki to nameone, are my main form of inspiration lately. Films like Amélie or Call me by yourname, and so many others, are able to take me back with memories from the past like magic. I watch them over and over again to study the use of space and composition, but mainly to understand what makes them so dreamy and nostalgic. I believe thats the secret for a good photograph. Plus all the visual memory, does help a lot with creativity.
THANK YOU REKA FOR ANSWERING, ONE LAST QUESTION: WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT MAIDEN INTERIOR?
Maiden was a great discovery for me in Amsterdam. Team building came natural to us, thanks to the similar professional approach we have. The way Denise is able to transform any given place, designing a charming space, perfectly envisioning the clients desires, made it simple for me to deliver a good portfolio from our very first collaboration. To her every object counts and nothing is left to chance.
